OOC Name: Lindsay
Desired Character: Captain Jack Harkness
Mobile Phone Number: 07823-563239
AIM Name: FaceofBoe
Background of your character:
Captain Jack Harkness was not born 'Jack Harkness.' No one knows his real name. He was born around the year 5000. He was raised on the Boeshane Peninsula with his younger brother Gray. One day, when they were still both young children, another species attacked their homeland. Jack's father told him to flee with Gray but while they were running away Jack accidentally let go of Gray's hand. After the attack was over, Jack looked everywhere for his brother but couldn't find him.
He then managed to get himself into all kinds of trouble, including attacking an unspecified enemy with a friend. The two of them were caught and his friend, being the weaker of them, was tortured to death. They then let Jack go, knowing that he'd be bearing the guilt of what happened to his friend for the rest of his life. Jack has been sentenced to death too many times to count but has found ways to always get out of it. For example, during one of those incidents, he ordered four hypervodkas for his last meal and woke up with his two executioners in bed the next morning.
Jack soon joined up with the Time Agency, where he began working with a man who went by the name of Captain John Hart. The two of them found themselves stuck in a time loop together for two weeks time loop time (five years real time) where they became partners in every sense of the word (with John totally being the wife in the relationship). Everything seemed to be going fine, until Jack discovered that the Time Agency had erased two years of his memory.
That didn't set well with the Captain so he became a conman instead. It was during the London Blitz that he rescued Rose Tyler from a barrage balloon. From her clothing alone, it was easy to deduce that she came from the future. He, Rose, and the Ninth Doctor then helped stop a plague brought about by a Chula ambulance's nanogenes. Jack carried a bomb ready to explode in his ship to save many people and would have been killed himself, if the TARDIS hadn't arrived to take him away.
He then traveled with Rose and the Doctor for a little while, stopping the Slitheen mayor of Cardiff, among other things. The trio soon found themselves on Satellite Five, where supposedly deadly game shows were taking place. They soon discovered, however, that it was the Daleks behind the shows. He was killed while defending the satellite but Rose, as the Bad Wolf, resurrected him, and from that day forth Jack has been unable to die.
Jack was stuck on the satellite but used his vortex manipulator to go back to Cardiff. He ended up in 1869 and couldn't leave, thanks to his burned out manipulator. He remained there in the hopes that the Doctor would come along someday, since he needed to use the rift in Cardiff to refuel the TARDIS. However, in 1899 a couple of Torchwood agents found out about the Doctor and about Jack's immortality. They captured and tortured Jack. They eventually released him on the condition that he would work for them. He began working for them, always awaiting the Doctor's return.
It wasn't long before he became the leader of Torchwood Three and had a brand new team at his disposal: Ianto Jones, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato, and Gwen Cooper. He became involved with Ianto but left his team when the Doctor finally did return to Cardiff. The new trio (Jack, Martha, and the Tenth Doctor) soon found themselves trying to stop the Master from taking over the world. After their success, Jack decided that he needed to return to Torchwood.
Once he was back with them, he saw that they had formed a well-oiled team together when he was gone. They didn't have a lot of time to be angry at him, however, as Jack soon discovered that Captain John Hart was in Cardiff. John caused him a whole hell of a lot of trouble and caused some more personal trouble for Jack when John said that he found Gray before leaving Earth. Gray's return resulted in the deaths of Owen and Tosh.
And then the 456 came. After Ianto's death and having to sacrifice his grandson's life to save the rest of the children, Jack had to get away from Earth, despite Gwen's protestations that she needed him to stay. But his vortex manipulator didn't take him to where he wanted to go ( a cold-fusion cruiser passing by). He found himself in a parallel world where all of those he has lost are still alive and he's supposed to be the dead one.
Status: Single (for now)
Personality:
Captain Jack Harkness is a mysterious man. He likes to keep his past a secret from the others, and there's no one out there in all of the universe who knows that much about him. Before he became immortal, Jack was a conman--a conman who thrived on running around on his own adventures. Being omnisexual, he would flirt with everything that came into his path. He then settled down with Ianto Jones, although that didn't stop his flirtatious side from disappearing completely. Jack is always wary of letting people get close to him because of the fact that he is going to live forever, while he's going to have to watch them eventually die.
Jack isn't too fond of being immortal; he sees it as a curse rather than a gift. How would you feel if you kept on dying over and over again and yet kept on coming back? Despite all of that, though, he still retains a sense of humor. On the outside, he is very much the cheerful man who tries to always have a smile on his face. Even if he does keep his past a secret from his friends, they still mean the world to him. He remains on Earth for them. But on the inside, Jack is very much a troubled man, struggling with issues in regard to his immortality and what that means in the large scheme of things for himself.
